An enraged gorilla is depicted using a quote from D.H. Lawrence’s Mornings in Mexico. He describes life in the South West from the perspective of an extraterrestrial who finds the interactions between indigenous locals and expanding capitalists, whom he calls “The Great White Monkeys” with sadness and amusement.
“The great white monkey has got hold of the keys of the world, and the black-eyed Mexican has to serve the great white monkey, in order to live. He has to learn the tricks of the white monkey-show: time of the day, coin of money, machines that start at a second, work that is meaningless and yet is paid for with exactitude, in exact coin. “Mornings in in Mexico”
في هذا النص يصف الكاتب الحياة في المنطقة الجنوبية الغربية من وجهة نظر كائن خرافي.
هذا الكائن كان يرى أن ما يحدث بين السكان الأصليين و الرأسماليين التوسعيين هي تفاعلات تبعث على الفكاهة والحزن، وكان يطلق على الرأسماليين اسم “القرود البيضاء العظيمة” .
يقول الإقتباس:
القرد الأبيض الكبير سيطر على مفاتيح العالم، ويجب على المكسيكي المتورّم أن يقوم بخدمة القرد الأبيض الكبير فقط ليعيش ،وعليه أن يتعلم قوانين استعراض القرد و أوقات اليوم، كيفية عمل الآلات التي تدور في نفس الثانية، وظائف ليس لها أي معنى ,تدفع اجورها بدقة و بعملة محددة. إنه وجود كامل قائم على حيل القرد وفضائل القرد.

Un gorille enragé est représenté à l’aide d’une citation de D.H. Lawrence’s Mornings in Mexico. Il décrit la vie dans le Sud-Ouest du point de vue d’un extraterrestre qui découvre les interactions entre les autochtones et les capitalistes en expansion, qu’il appelle « les grands singes blancs » avec tristesse et amusement.
« Le grand singe blanc a mis la main sur les clés du monde, et le Mexicain aux yeux noirs doit servir le grand singe blanc pour vivre. Il doit apprendre les ficelles du singe blanc : heure du jour, pièce d’argent, machines qui démarrent à la seconde, travail qui n’a pas de sens et pourtant payé avec exactitude, en monnaie exacte. Toute une existence de tours de singe et de vertus de singe.
