Nietzsche’s Abyss

“And if thou gaze long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into thee.”
وإذا نظرت طويلا إلى هاوية فالهوياوية تنظر إليك أيضا

The German philosopher Freidrich Neitche’s famous observation from Beyond Good and Evil (1886) is written in the traditional 15th century Jali Diwani Arabic calligraphy script precisely twenty-one times in eight concentric circles radiating out from a dark eye formed by the harakat of the text. The quote comprises the second part of the 146th aphorism, the whole of which reads:

He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby becomes a monster. And if thou gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into thee.
