The poem “In Her Absence, I Created Her Image”, by one of the most famous Palestinian poets, Mahmoud Darwish, is written exactly once in the Diwani Jali Arabic calligraphy script, to form the image of a nude woman. The poem (translation in the links below) is written in eight horizontal lines across the image.  In the text, the poet discusses his passion and fascination and with “her”. Although, Darwish does not make it clear whether he is idealizing Palestine or an actual woman. Some postulate that “her” refers to Jerusalem specifically, because of the reference to the seven hills in the poem.

إن العمل عبارة عن صورة امرأة عارية مستلقية على سرير تم عملها  باستخدام النص العربي فقط من قصيدة “في غيابها كونت صورتها” ل محمود درويش. تمت كتابة النص مرة واحدة بالخط  العربي الديواني الجالي لتشكل صورة امراأة عارية .  القصيدة مكتوبة في ثمانية خطوط أفقية, في النص، يناقش الشاعر حبه وانسحاره “بها”. وعلى الرغم من أن درويش ليس واضحا فيما اذا كان يمجد فلسطين أو امرأة فعلية.يظن البعض بأن “هي” تشير إلى القدس على وجه التحديد، وذلك بسبب الإشارة إلى التلال السبعة في القصيدة
