The poem “Untitled” by Scottish poet Tom Pow is written twice in the Diwani Jali Arabic calligraphy script to create the image of a man and child, hand in hand.
This piece was one of eight designs, commissioned by Reels Festivals to accompany their poetry publication featuring contemporary poets from Lebanon, Syria, and Scotland. A piece was commissioned for each of the eight poets featured in the festival. In preparation for the festival, all of the poets traveled to Lebanon in order to translate each other’s poems from Arabic to English and vice versa, this is one of those recently translated poems. UNTITLED
A man and a woman once sat down
at a bare table and looked out
at the sky. What needs to be done?
they asked, so that, in later years,
their children or their grandchildren
might ask, What shall we do today?

الأطفال هم مستقبلنا
تم كتابة قصيدة “بلا عنوان” من قبل الشاعر الاسكتلندي توم باو مرتين في الخط العربي الديواني الجلي لخلق صورة لرجل وطفل جنبا إلى جنب.
كانت هذه القطعة واحدة من ثمانية تصاميم، تمت رعايتها من مهرجانات ريل لترافق نشرهم الشعري الذي يضم شعراء معاصرين من لبنان وسوريا واسكتلندا. تمت رعاية قطعة واحدة لكل شاعر من الشعراء الثمانية لتعرض في المهرجان. تحضيراً للمهرجان,
سافر جميع الشعراء إلى لبنان لكي يترجموا قصائدهم من العربي إلى الانكليزي وبالعكس، وهذه واحدة من تلك القصائد المترجمة

ذات مرة، جلسَ رجلٌ وامرأة
إلى طاولةٍ جرداء يرنوان
إلى السماء. ما اللازمُ فعله؟
تساءلا، لعلّ أطفالهما
أو أحفادهما، في السنواتِ اللاحقة
يتساءلون: ماذا ينبغي أن نفعلَ اليوم؟
