This piece features three tweets by Donald Trump forming the shape of a Tomahawk cruise missile, the same weapon used by Trump to attack Sharyat Airbase in early 2017. The tweets are from 2013 and 2014 in the aftermath of chemical attacks allegedly carried out by the Syrian regime, urging then president Obama to attack Syria and condemning American aid to various rebel groups. One tweet is written in the fuselage of the missile, one in the wings and one in the intake and tail find of the missile.
"Many of the Syrian rebels are radical jihadi Islamists who are murdering Christians. Why would we ever fight with them?" Trump, September 6, 2013.
"President Obama, do not attack Syria. There is no upside and tremendous downside. Save your 'powder' for another (and more important) day", Trump, September 7, 2013.
"The so-called 'moderate' Syrian rebels pledged their allegiance to ISIS after Obama's address. We should not be arming them", Trump, September 12, 2014.
The missile itself is framed by a quote from Bashar Al-Assad written in the Diwani Script. The quote comes from an interview with NBC, when the host, citing Trump's pro-Russia/Assad comments asked Bashar if he would prefer Trump to Hillary. Bashar responds that he is indifferent because campaign promises are always different from the actions of sitting presidents.
"It is about the politics. In Syria, we never bet on any president coming or any president going. We never bet, because what they say in their campaign is different from what they practice when they are elected", Bashar Al-Assad.
