Surah 110 – The Divine Support سورة النصر

wave 2The text in this piece is the entire 110th book of the Qur’an. It is part of my ongoing project ‘The Quran for Solidarity‘.

إن النص في هذه القطعة هو السورة 110 كاملةً من القراّن الكريم. وهي جزء من مشروعي الحالي – القراّن للتضامن

The image is a homage to Japanese artist Hokusai’s woodcut The Great Wave off Kanagawa. .

This surah is believed to have been the last one given to Muhammad and a sign of his approaching death.

من المعتقد أن هذه السورة هي اّخر سورة تنزلت على محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم وكانت كإشارة لاقتراب موته

This Surah, entitled ‘Al-Nasr,’ meaning ‘The Victory’ is composed of 3 verses, a translation of which can be seen below, courtesy of Sahih International.

إن هذه السورة وعنوانها “النصر” تتألف من 3 اّيات. ممكن روئة الترجمة أدناه, ماخوذة من صحيح انترناشيونال

110:1 When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest,

110:2 And you see the people entering into the religion of Allah in multitudes,

110:3 Then exalt [Him] with praise of your Lord and ask forgiveness of Him. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance.

  1. إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ
  2. وَرَأَيْتَ النَّاسَ يَدْخُلُونَ فِي دِينِ اللَّهِ أَفْوَاجًا
  3. فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَاسْتَغْفِرْهُ إِنَّهُ كَانَ تَوَّابًا

    This one is awesome! It’s quite obviously The Great Wave off Kanagawa, though.

    This one is possibly my favorite, but I’m new to Arabic calligraphy and find the simpler ones less interesting than the fancy ones that have a detailed image. Doesn’t hurt that it’s an image I know of already, too. I haven’t gone through all of your surahs yet, but what I’ve seen I’ve liked. This is very impressive work, and I envy you the talent displayed in them.
